Gather Williams, known to audiences as “Doc,” is an international recording artist in worship, gospel, soul and R&B whose career runs from Chris Jasper’s Isley Brothers camp to a solo release on Universal/Fontana. A Stellar Award Nominee for “Greater Is He,” he charted in Japan and South Africa with “Trying to Let Go” and has toured with Foreigner. A 30-year BMI writer/publisher and film composer, he records today under WILL-UM MUSIC GROUP.
Gather Williams came up as a member of OutFront, signed to Chris Jasper’s independent label under the Gold City imprint. Jasper, a member of the Isley Brothers, gave the group its grounding in the soul tradition Williams still carries. He then stepped out on his own as “Doc” with So Committed, released through Universal/Fontana.
He is a Stellar Award Nominee for “Greater Is He,” from the album The Precious Things in Life. Kappa Alpha Psi honored him with its Grand Polemarch Award of Achievement for the CD Smooth Kappa Kuts. His single “Trying to Let Go” charted in Japan and South Africa and became one of South Africa’s top pop songs.
On the road, he has toured with Foreigner and performed alongside leading gospel and Christian artists. He has collaborated with Grammy, Stellar and Dove Award–winning artists and producers. As a composer, he has scored Jive Jeanie, Me and Bobby McGee and Hazed, along with several documentaries.
Williams holds a doctorate in sacred music, has owned both a record label and a publishing company, and has been a BMI writer/publisher for 30 years. He is a U.S. Army veteran and a best-selling author. He writes and records today under WILL-UM MUSIC GROUP, and his music centers on love, uplift, encouragement and legacy.
